Share Skipton Library of Things Borrower’s Agreement (Terms of use)
Thank you for joining Share Skipton's Library of Things! Before borrowing, please read and agree to the following terms to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
In Short: Return items clean, on the day they are due back, to the place you picked them up from, during opening hours, and tell us about any problems. When using tools and equipment, always act within your competency - this means you must be capable of using them, and follow any instructions and safety guidelines provided.
Definitions:
The ‘Member’, ‘you’ – any person who has created an account via the Share Skipton website, regardless of whether they have borrowed or not.
‘Item’ - any equipment or ‘thing’ in Share Skipton’s inventory.
‘Share Skipton’, ‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’ - the Library of Things and Charity lending out items to members.
‘Borrowing’ - the act of hiring an item from our Library of Things for the stated fee and returning it on the agreed return date.
Borrower’s Rules and Responsibilities:
Membership Requirements: you must
Be 18 or over.
Complete the Membership Application.
Accept the Borrower’s Agreement and Liability Waiver.
Provide debit/credit card details for transactions.
Borrowing Guidelines: you must
Use items responsibly, safely and for their intended purpose.
Return items clean, on time, during opening hours, to the same location.
Notify us immediately of any problems or damages.
Not lend borrowed items to others.
Item Borrowing:
You are responsible for borrowed items.
Some items require additional agreements or user manuals.
Borrowed items must be returned in the same or better condition. You agree to Share Skipton’s assessment of an item’s condition.
You are liable for loss, damage, or late returns.
If you reserve an item to borrow that is on temporary loan to Share Skipton, you may have your reservation cancelled if the person lending it to us removes the item from our library.
Fees and Charges:
You must pay the Annual Membership Fee (waived for Active Volunteers).
Late fees may apply for overdue items. Please contact us at library@shareskipton.org if you will be unable to return an item on its due date to discuss alternative arrangements.
Cleaning fees of £5 per item may apply for unclean items.
Loss/Damage fees may apply for the replacement of lost/damaged items.
Extension of Borrowing Period:
Borrowing periods may be extended if no-one else has reserved the item and the appropriate borrowing fee is paid.
Share Skipton reserves the right to refuse or limit attempts to extend borrowing periods.
Insurance and Liability:
You are insured for personal use of borrowed items, provided you are acting within your competency, follow the instructions and safety guidelines provided, use the item for its intended purpose and with care.
You are insured for theft of any items borrowed. If an item you have borrowed is stolen you must report it to the police and notify us immediately.
You are not insured for professional use or for events involving members of the public.
You must have your own public liability insurance for public events.

Our Statement
The item in our collection is for the use of Share Skipton Members. Out of respect for future users, please take care of the items you borrow and report any damage to Share Skipton immediately. Borrowers are responsible for damage to items they have borrowed that results from carelessness, intentional actions or negligence; we will not charge you for damage that occurs through no fault of your own. If you feel compelled to return them in better condition than when you borrowed them, that would be highly appreciated.

I confirm I am competent and capable of using the item I am borrowing, will use it with care and for its intended purpose and follow any instructions and safety guidelines provided. I confirm that I understand Share Skipton, its trustees, volunteers and employees claim no expertise and make no representation concerning the fitness of any item for any particular use.
As a Member, I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Share Skipton, its trustees, volunteers, and employees for any and all liability, loss, claims and demands, actions or causes of action for the death and injury to any people, and for any property damage suffered or incurred by any person, which arises in any way from the use of borrowed items. I understand that failure to comply with any of the Borrower’s rules and responsibilities may result in cancellation of my membership and/or legal action against me.
